| This is a line of matchsticks; each match is 5cm from the next. The camera was focused on the match in the middle, i.e. the one with a black line marked just under the head. The camera was approx. 60cm from the match in focus (some foreground has been cropped out as it was un-necessary for the illustration). The camera lens was at aperture f1.8; it can be easily seen even the matches only 5cm from the target match are out of focus due to very limited Depth Of Field. |

the photo below, the lens is now "stopped-down" (i.e.
the aperture closed) to a smaller aperture f5.6. The matches on either side of the target match are in much better focus; even the match two matches to the right of the target match is moderately clear. The Depth Of Field has increased considerably compared to that at aperture f1.8. |

| The photo below taken at aperture f16 shows a much better Depth Of Field than that at f5.6, and a huge improvement over that taken at f1.8. |
